TfB carries out 'educational speed checks' on Risborough Road

Transport for Buckinghamshire, in partnership with Thames Valley Police, carried out an educational speed check on the A4010 Risborough Road, Stoke Mandeville, last week in order to re-enforce the new speed limit. The speed limit on this stretch of road was reduced from 40mph down to 30mph in March 2016 and signs have been put up to alert drivers of the new speed limit change.

In two hours 35 vehicles were stopped, which included cars, vans, lorries, motorcycles and a coach. Drivers were reminded that the speed limit was now 30mph and given an educational talk on the risks of driving over the speed limit.  Driver’s postcodes were recorded and it was evident that over 90% of drivers stopped lived locally.

Mark Shaw Cabinet Member for Transportation said “This roadside check was done to bring attention to the new 30mph speed limit on the Risborough Road. We wanted to educate drivers about how their actions behind the wheel can affect the safety of themselves and others.

Police and Road Safety Officers got the opportunity to speak to drivers who use this road regularly, to really bring home the message that the difference of a few miles per hour can mean the difference between life and death. The plain fact is, the faster someone is driving, the less time they have to react if something unexpected happens.  Speed limits are there for a reason”

During the educational roadside check no speeding tickets were issued but Thames Valley Police will be enforcing the speed limit in the future.
